Our Frequently asked Questions

At White & White Healthcare, many of the people we see simply want to stay active, independent, and comfortable in their day-to-day lives. Whether you’re dealing with stiffness, aches and pains, or recovering from an injury, it’s natural to have questions before starting treatment. We’ve answered some of the most common ones below.

What can osteopathy and sports therapy help with?

Osteopathy and sports therapy are designed to support people with a wide range of issues, from back and neck pain to joint stiffness, muscle strains, arthritis, and postural discomfort. Treatment can also help with balance, mobility, and confidence in movement—so you can keep doing the activities you enjoy for longer.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know you. We’ll talk through your health history, daily activities, and any concerns you may have. We’ll then gently assess your posture and movement before agreeing on a treatment plan that’s tailored to your needs. This may include hands-on osteopathic treatment, gentle corrective exercises, or supportive techniques such as dry needling or sports taping.

What techniques do you use?

Every treatment is personalised. We may use hands-on techniques such as joint mobilisation and soft tissue release, combined with simple corrective movements to improve flexibility and strength. When appropriate, we can also use techniques like sports taping or dry needling to reduce discomfort and aid recovery. Everything is explained clearly, and we’ll always go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

How long are sessions, and how many will I need?

Your first appointment usually lasts up to 60 minutes, which gives us plenty of time for a thorough assessment and treatment. Follow-up sessions are typically up to 30 minutes. Some people notice improvement quite quickly, while others benefit from a short course of care to build lasting changes. We’ll discuss what’s best for you at every step.

Will treatment be painful?

Treatment is generally gentle and safe. Occasionally, you may feel mild soreness or stiffness afterwards – similar to how you might feel after some light exercise. This usually eases within a day or two. We’ll always adapt treatment to your comfort levels, and nothing is ever forced.

Do I need to be sporty or very active to benefit?

Not at all. Many of our patients aren’t involved in sport—they simply want to move more comfortably, garden without aches, walk more easily, or keep up with grandchildren. Osteopathy and sports therapy are about improving everyday movement, supporting your wellbeing, and helping you stay active at any age.

Are your practitioners qualified?

Yes. All of our osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), and our sports therapists are fully qualified. You can feel confident knowing you’re in safe, experienced hands.

Still have questions?

If your question isn’t answered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re always happy to talk things through and help you feel confident about your care. Call or email us today—or if you’re ready, you can book your first appointment online.
